What does it entail to design a cooling system when the goal is to double the capacity of an existing plant?

SACOME has manufactured a cooling system for yogurt products designed to double the production capacity of a dairy plant in Kenya.

The project was developed in collaboration with a consulting firm specializing in the region, which enabled the system to be supplied in strict compliance with the applicable standards and regulations in Kenya.

The process required the continuous cooling of up to 20,000 l/h of product, reducing its temperature from 50 °C to 10 °C using cold water. To achieve this, the system incorporates a S-TFM-I multi-tube heat exchanger from SACOME’s sanitary range, featuring corrugated inner tubes and units with a nominal length of 3 meters, arranged on a common frame.

As this was a capacity expansion of an existing facility, the project was constrained by the available space and the configuration of the inlet and outlet connections. Thanks to the customized 3D design that SACOME develops for each project, it was possible to define a solution tailored to the actual installation and developed in close collaboration with the client.

In projects like this, thermal performance is only part of the challenge. The integration of the equipment into the plant, regulatory compliance, and adaptation to the actual conditions of the facility are equally critical for the solution to work. When the design truly fits the facility, capacity expansion ceases to be a problem and becomes a viable solution.

When capacity changes, the solution must rise to the occasion.
