Cooling of copper sludge by means of using heat exchangers
Once again, SACOME has been awarded the design and manufacturing of three shell and tube heat exchangers for the cooling of copper sludge, for one of the main mining multinationals in South Africa.
In this case, the energy recovery is carried out by cooling the sludge from 90 to 62 ° C by means of the same sludge from another process, entering the casing at 30 ° C.
With a shell diameter of 36″ (DN900) and more than 600 corrugated inner tubes, we get a power of more than 8.000KW in each line.
These industrial shell and tube heat exchangers consist of 4 passes being manufactured entirely in stainless steel 316L.

The importance of rheology in the design of food plants
The importance of rheology in the design of any processing plant is crucial since the sizing of many of the elements composing it is very dependent on this “resistance”, also taking special relevance with food products: heat exchangers, pipes, valves, pumps, mixers, etc.
How to design a heat exchanger
To design a heat exchanger it is necessary to have certain data, such as the process flow rate, the temperature and the physical properties of products.
