Two products that may seem similar, but with very different demands in design and materials.
SACOME has been awarded the contract to manufacture two tubular heat exchangers for the hot filling of onion cream and paprika cream.
Although both applications belong to the same process, the operating conditions were not the same. The two products have different thermal properties and require different filling temperatures. Even so, the client established one clear condition from the outset: both heat exchangers had to be geometrically identical.
To meet this requirement, SACOME’s engineering team carried out numerous simulations until reaching a balanced solution between the installation space available and the heat transfer capacity required for each product.
The most critical difference lay in the composition of the products, particularly in their salt content. This became a key factor in ensuring the long-term integrity of the equipment. For the onion cream cooler, the final design used AISI 316L stainless steel for the product-contact parts. In the paprika cream cooler, SACOME selected super duplex SAF 2507 for the product-contact areas, a material whose resistance to the salt content of this service proved fully satisfactory.
In projects like this, solving the thermal duty properly is only part of the work. It also requires understanding the real differences between products that, at first glance, might seem very similar.
