Thermal design, mechanical design and manufacturing of heat exchangers for the vegetable oil sector
The main characteristic of SACOME are our custom designs for each project based on the needs of our clients. This adaptation is not only limited to the thermal design of the equipment, but also to customer requirements in terms of mechanical calculations. In this sense, at SACOME we have various mechanical calculation softwares (for example, PV Elite). Therefore, we are able to carry out these calculations according to different design codes, such as AD 2000 Merkblatt, ASME VIII Div 1, PD 5500, among others. In the same way, we can perform calculations for Finite Elements Analysis (FEA). Furthermore, at SACOME we collaborate with other external companies specialized in mechanical calculations to solve those cases that we cannot calculate by on our own means.
Continuing with the abovementioned, SACOME has recently been commissioned for the thermal design, mechanical design and manufacturing of two heat exchangers for the vegetable oil sector. The heat exchangers we have selected for this project are the I-TFMP-I Multi-pass Heat Exchanger and the I-TFM-I Multitube Heat Exchanger, both shell and tube heat exchangers from our Industrial Line.

Mechanical design including special seismic conditions
One of the main points of this project has been the mechanical design including special seismic conditions since the shell and tube heat exchangers will be installed in an area with high seismic activity. Thus, SACOME has performed the mechanical calculations required to find the optimal solution. A fundamental parameter in this type of seismic calculation is the so-called “Long-Period Transition Period, TL (s)” whose value depends on the geographical area in which the equipment will be installed. In the same way, it is also necessary to know the following data: Peak Ground Acceleration, Spectral Response Acceleration Parameter at a period of 1 s (S1), Spectral Response Acceleration Parameter at short periods (Ss) and the Local Site Class.
In short, this is a further example of SACOME’s technical capability in mechanical design.

The importance of rheology in the design of food plants
The importance of rheology in the design of any processing plant is crucial since the sizing of many of the elements composing it is very dependent on this “resistance”, also taking special relevance with food products: heat exchangers, pipes, valves, pumps, mixers, etc.
How to design a heat exchanger
To design a heat exchanger it is necessary to have certain data, such as the process flow rate, the temperature and the physical properties of products.
