Heat exchanger intended for the heating of purified water (PW)

Design and manufacturing of a tubular heat exchanger for a purified water loop

SACOME has been contacted by pharmaceutical engineering company for design and manufacture a heat exchanger for a purified water loop. The final customer is a major pharmaceutical company located in the Eastern Europe, involved in the manufacturing of antibiotics and different active ingredients for human and animal medicine.

This water has been pre-treated (to remove hardness, metals and oxides, among others) and treated (the usual procedures are by reverse osmosis or ultrafiltration). Then, the water is heated up to 85 ºC in a batch process in the heat exchanger to achieve the sanitization of the purified water loop.

The solution proposed by our technicians has been our P-TFM-I heat exchanger from our Pharmaceutical Line. The tubular heat exchanger had to meet various customer requirements; apart from the roughness requirement on the product side (in this case Ra ≤ 0.8µm), the heat exchanger had to be very compact, as it was mounted on a small skid.
