background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.6&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2>Margarine Remelters Heat Exchangers Case Study: Backgorund<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A <strong>world leading company<\/strong> of the <strong>food and chemical industry<\/strong> contacted <strong>SACOME<\/strong> to <strong>solve the corrosion problem<\/strong> in an existing <strong>heat exchanger<\/strong> intended for the <strong>remelting of margarine<\/strong> for its further reprocessing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several difficulties were involved in this application, not only the choice of <strong>the most suitable material<\/strong> but also an accurate interpretation of the<strong> thermal performance of margarine<\/strong>, a semi-solid product that must change into liquid state to be reprocessed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other geometries could be used, as scraped surface heat exchangers, but their higher initial and operational costs, or the mechanical problems of the seals, make the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacome.com\/en\/tubular-heat-exchangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>tubular heat exchanger<\/strong> <\/a>to be an attractive solution to bear in mind.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.6&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2>The solution: SACOME Corrugated Tube Heat Exchangers<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the report and analysis from the <strong>UPCT<\/strong> (Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Cartagena) an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacome.com\/en\/heat-exchangers-thermal-calculation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>optimised thermal design<\/strong><\/a> from the<strong> required exchange area<\/strong> viewpoint was proposed, ensuring a correct <strong>performance of the tubular heat exchanger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Based on our <strong>more than 40 references with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacome.com\/en\/margarine-remelting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">margarine applications<\/a><\/strong>, the engineers from our Technical Department checked different configurations of our <span style=\"color: #35789b;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacome.com\/en\/corrugated-tube-heat-exchangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>corrugated tube heat exchangers<\/strong><\/a><\/span> until proposing the one most suited to the client\u00b4s specifications.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=&#8221;12px|0px|27px|0px&#8221; fullwidth=&#8221;off&#8221; specialty=&#8221;off&#8221; prev_background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; next_background_color=&#8221;rgba(233,233,233,0.38)&#8221;][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.6&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2>Material Specifications<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The existing heat exchanger, manufactured in a standard austenitic stainless steel as 316L, was facing a corrosion process so we decided to ask for a\u00a0<strong>sample\u00a0<\/strong>to the client to analyse it and recommend a\u00a0<strong>suitable material<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to our close\u00a0<strong>relation with the <span style=\"color: #35789b;\">UPCT<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Cartagena<\/strong>)\u00a0SACOME\u00a0could draw conclusion about the origin of corrosion in order to avoid it in future designs.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_4&#8243;][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.63&#8243; animation_style=&#8221;slide&#8221; animation_duration=&#8221;500ms&#8221; animation_intensity_slide=&#8221;10%&#8221; animation_direction=&#8221;left&#8221; show_bottom_space=&#8221;on&#8221; \/][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.16.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The experts of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upct.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>UPCT<\/strong><\/a> did different analysis to the sample with signs of corrosion provided by our client, as\u00a0<strong>chemical analysis by spectrography, macro and micrograph<\/strong>, concluding that the sample presented localised (pitting type) corrosion due to the combination of\u00a0<strong>high percentage of chlorides\u00a0<\/strong>(from the high content of salt of more than 1%) and\u00a0<strong>high process temperatures<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe technicians from the UPCT analysed some comparative figures about the response from several stainless steels (both austenitic and austenitic ferritic type), not only against\u00a0<strong>pitting corrosion<\/strong>, but also against\u00a0<strong>crevice corrosion<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>stress corrosion cracking<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>intergranular corrosion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_4&#8243;][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.63&#8243; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.6&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2>Product Specifications<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>fat blend in margarine<\/strong> consists of a mixture of single oils, emulsifiers, lecithin, flavors and other minor ingredients dissolved in the blend, as colorants or anti-oxidants, while the water-phase can have variable contents of salt.<br \/>\nThis such varying composition and the phase changes involved in the <strong>heating of margarine<\/strong>, made it necessary to do a <strong>rheological analysis<\/strong> of the product, in order to be able to do an accurate<strong> thermal design<\/strong> of the <strong>heat exchange<\/strong>r.<br \/>\nThat is why we asked also the client for a product sample, thanks to which we could get a full analysis of the thermal properties at different temperatures in the laboratories of the UPCT.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>The modelling of the melting &amp;
