We proposed our client different alternatives, advising him to get a minimum payback time to recover the initial investment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Furthermore, our Technical Department proposed a customized design which included a <strong>special cladded insulation<\/strong> with the aim to minimise the heat losses to the environment, thus contributing to reduce the energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to dealing with the <strong>heat recovery<\/strong>, in the next sections we will go into the details of the design of <strong>heat exchangers for the processing of vegetable oils.<\/strong><br \/>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.16.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2>The solution: Corrugated Tube Heat Exchangers for Edible Oil Refining<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As stated earlier, it is not necessary to emphasize the critical importance of the\u00a0<b>energy consumption<\/b>\u00a0in the costs when\u00a0<strong>refining oil<\/strong>. Using energy in the most economical way was the biggest concern for our client, hence\u00a0<b>energy recovery<\/b>\u00a0and reduction in the consumptions became in our main objective in the\u00a0<strong>design of the tubular heat exchanger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this regard, our Technical Department checked different alternatives and advised our client to get a\u00a0<b>payback time<\/b>\u00a0as short as possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moreover our engineers checked the different phases of operation, as\u00a0<b>start-up<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>shutdown<\/b>, from the thermal and mechanical point of view.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All the above, together with the fact of the\u00a0<strong>restrictive working conditions<\/strong>\u00a0due to the\u00a0<strong>high temperatures and pressures<\/strong>, made using the\u00a0<b>tubular heat exchangers<\/b>\u00a0with\u00a0<b>corrugated tubes<\/b>\u00a0to be the<strong>\u00a0most suitable from the mechanical and thermal point of view<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=&#8221;12px|0px|27px|0px&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.63&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;left&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Edible Oil Refining Process<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Edible oils can be obtained from a wide variety of seeds, grains and nuts, being essential its\u00a0<strong>refining<\/strong>\u00a0to allow they can be used for\u00a0<strong>cooking purposes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The fact is that vegetable oils and fats contain some impurities, being some examples\u00a0<strong>moisture<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0lecithins<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0insoluble solids<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0free fatty acids<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0waxes\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0metals<\/strong>\u00a0as sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Colour<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0odour\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0taste<\/strong>\u00a0are also features that must be taken into consideration to get an optimal quality for the oil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<strong>refining process<\/strong>\u00a0comprises several steps such as\u00a0<strong>bleaching<\/strong>\u00a0(removal of pigments) and\u00a0<strong>deodorising<\/strong>\u00a0(removal of odor and taste), but also other stages as\u00a0<strong>degumming<\/strong> (removing of hydratable and non-hydratable gums, i.e. lecithin),\u00a0<strong>neutralising\u00a0<\/strong>(to remove free fatty acids), and\u00a0<strong>dewaxing<\/strong>\u00a0(removal of waxes).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In all these phases, important changes of temperature (from ambient temperature up to 300 \u00baC) are involved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Due to the important temperatures reached along the process (close to 300 \u00baC) one of the key feature in this project was to recover as much energy as possible, minimizing the heat consumption. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_divider _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.63&#8243; Vegetable oil is an organic compound formed of triglycerides extracted from a plant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In this regard, SACOME has hundreds of references in the processing not only of numerous types of edible oil, but also of animal fats and their derivatives, such as:<\/p>\n<p>Palm oil<br \/>\nSoybean oil<br \/>\nRapeseed\/canola oil<br \/>\nOlive oil<br \/>\nSunflower seed oil<br \/>\nLinseed oil<br \/>\nCoconut oil<br \/>\nFatty acids<br \/>\nLecithin<br \/>\nAnimal fats<br \/>\nBiodiesel<br \/>\nFish-by-products in oil phase<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This huge number of references has brought us an extensive knowledge of the process and of the different products that can be processed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apart from the difficulties for the thermal calculation with fluids having such low conductivity and medium viscosity, several details had to be taken into consideration by our engineers during the design stage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As an example, some types of vegetable oils can become polymerized after the high temperatures reached during deodorisation, resulting in high fouling and even plugging of the flow paths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was also significant to choose properly the order in which the different oils were processed, as some kinds (to be processed the last ones) can do a self-cleaning effect in the product side.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>SACOME can provide you with an extensive knowledge about the process of vegetable oils, animal fats and their derivates\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; The<strong> flanged tubesheet<\/strong> allows an easy removal of the reductions for <strong>inspection and cleaning<\/strong> tasks of the inner tubes.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=&#8221;Gaskets&#8221;
